Climate Cafe Facilitator Training is for our Climate Aware Practitioner (CAP) members who wish to facilitate Climate Cafes as part of their professional services and in their communities. This training considers the Australian context of the climate and ecological crises and the ongoing facilitator supervision required.

This training will include the following:

  • The framework and psycho-social principles of climate cafes
  • A short experiential climate cafe
  • A discussion on what emotions can emerge in a Climate Cafe and the facilitator’s role
  • Suggestions on how to set up and promote a Climate Cafe

To attend, you must be registered with PSC as a Climate Aware Practitioner.

We also ask that you have participated in at least one Climate Cafe beforehand. You can do that by registering for one of the following:

Cost

$150.00 (plus booking fee): Standard registration

$250:00 (plus booking fee): Standard registration plus extra support for PSC 

If you are a registered CAP, keen to do this training but currently not in a position to pay $150, please contact programs@psychologyforasafeclimate.org to request financial support for a reduced price of $50 (plus booking fee).

Registration includes a follow-up “Intervision” (peer support and supervision) session on Monday 14th August, 6pm – 7.15pm

We expect to run 3 more, bi-monthly sessions after August 14, to develop and support a community of Climate Cafes facilitators and provide opportunities for peer support, discussion and feedback. These later sessions will be available to book separately, for a small registration fee, and are optional but recommended. Dates for later sessions still tbc.

Facilitators:

Christie Wilson, MA

Christie is a clinical and “climate psychotherapist” who supports climate leaders at the front line of the climate and ecological crises. She writes, facilitates and coordinates Climate-Aware Professional Development Programs for Psychology for a Safe Climate and supports mental health practitioners on their climate journey and bringing climate psychology into practice.

Sally Gillespie, PHD

Sally writes, lectures and facilitates workshops on climate psychology and ecopsychology. Her book Climate Crisis and Consciousness: Reimagining Our World and Ourselves explores the psychological challenges and developmental processes of climate engagement for individuals and societies. She is an active member of Psychology for a Safe Climate and the Climate Psychology Alliance.


PSC Event Terms and Conditions

By registering for an event, workshop, forum or activity hosted by Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC event), I understand and agree that:

  1. A PSC event may include experiential components in which participants work in a group format to discuss their thoughts and feelings, facilitated by the workshop leader(s). Although the leader(s) is/are accredited mental health professional(s), and trained facilitator(s) with PSC, these group experiences are not therapy groups, and the facilitator(s) will not engage in rendering any psychotherapeutic or healthcare advice, or advice of any kind for any individual or for their particular situation.
  2. PSC does not provide medical, mental health or any other type of healthcare service. No diagnosis or treatment of, or advice regarding, any medical or mental health condition or illness of any participant can or will be offered by PSC.
  3. Participation in a PSC event cannot substitute for, and is not an alternative to, medical or other healthcare diagnosis and treatment when a medical or mental health condition or illness is present.
  4. It is my personal responsibility to seek diagnosis, treatment and advice regarding medical or mental health conditions from physicians, psychotherapists and other accredited healthcare Professionals. Waiver of liability: I assume full responsibility for any risk, injury or damage, known or unknown, which I may incur through my registration in a PSC event. I acknowledge that PSC is not liable for any discomfort or distress which may arise because of my registration in a PSC event. I waive, release and discharge PSC from all liability and claims made as a result of my registration.
