Dr Brenda Dobia

Biographical Info An experienced psychologist, educator and social ecologist, I am a passionate advocate for social change to address personal and planetary wellbeing and promote intergenerational equity. I have a particular interest in supporting activists and in teaching for sustainability in ways that recognise the psychological and social dimensions of the ecological crisis and promote compassion and agency needed for transformation. My professional background is in clinical psychology and also in yoga practice, theory and therapeutics. I have specialised in individual and systemic interventions for young people, as well as in women’s health and sexual assault. More recently my work has featured preventive and trauma-informed interventions in school and community settings. In 2000 I joined the faculty of Social Ecology at Western Sydney University, where I spent 21 years learning and teaching in this transdisciplinary field at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I designed and taught a range of subjects including Ecopsychology & Cultural Change and Education for Sustainability. Having recently shifted my main focus from academia back into the community, I am reorienting my work to enable greater opportunities to facilitate learning, wellbeing support and growth with and for those who are struggling with the precariousness of living in these times.
