The Climate & Nature Movement

Working and volunteering on the frontlines of crisis

We know the toll of this work. Facing climate disruption daily, holding the grief of ecosystems, communities and futures, and still turning up to do the work. It's exhausting. But there is a regenerative approach - for the climate and for you!

Beyond Burnout

A movement-wide response to a movement-wide crisis

Working with the climate and nature crisis is emotionally demanding, psychologically exhausting and often invisible. Burnout has become normalised — but it is not inevitable. PSC’s Beyond Burnout Initiative addresses the root causes, building the skills, cultures and capacities needed to sustain the movement for the long haul.

Beyond Burnout Initiative

A movement-wide effort to resource, connect and strengthen the climate and nature sector. Because caring for the planet cannot be separated from caring for its people.

The Threat

Burnout is one of the biggest threats to the effectiveness of climate and environment organisations.

Stress, grief and overwhelm are eroding the capacity of individuals and teams to stay engaged.
It feels personal, but the true problem is systemic, so traditional wellness approaches aren’t able to address the unique realities of climate work.

The Cost

43% of climate workers report burnout symptoms.

Median time lost is 34 weeks per claim, compared to 8 weeks for other injuries.

Impacts on every level:
Personal, financial, organisational, movement.

The Solution

Beyond Burnout Initiative:

We provide relief now
with support programs, Climate Cafés, and training.
We tackle systemic causes of burnout with inter-organisational solutions and cultures of care.
We build long-term resilience through leadership development, capacity building, and shared learning.

A flourishing movement for a flourishing planet

The climate and nature movement should not only be effective. It should be healthy.

The strength of the movement depends on the wellbeing of its people. PSC is working for a future where leaders, organisations and communities can respond to the global crisis with compassion, courage and creativity.
